Dr. Arthur M. Sackler opened the Sackler Gallery in 1987 to house his collection of about 1,000 works of art. Highlights include early Chinese bronzes and jades, Chinese lacquerware, sculpture from South and Southeast Asia, and more. Since its opening the galleries have expanded with the addition of the Vever Collection, a collection of 19th-and 20th-century Japanese prints; Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean paintings; arts of village India; contemporary Chinese ceramics, and more. The Sackler Gallery also plays host to a wide array of acclaimed traveling exhibits.
