Once a simple community outreach program, the Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture has elevated itself to both a museum and research center devoted to the identification, documentation, protection, and interpretation of the African American experience. The museum is also involved in contemporary urban issues, including health care, transportation, housing, and more. In existence for more than 30 years, the museum continues to involve community residents in its cultural documentation and preservation, facilitating the need for project planning and execution.
